BBS2Dir version 1.01
by JC Computer Consulting
═══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════
08-02-94 - version 1.01
! Fixed bug in B2DCFG. When the sysop tried to configure the path of
ARJ.EXE, PKUNZIP.EXE, or LHA.EXE, it would try to access drive B:,
causing the program to crash. This only occurred after the first such
search.
08-01-94 - version 1.00 - First real release of BBS2Dir!
! When aborted by Ctrl-Break, the log now says so, instead of saying,
"BBS2Dir detected run-time error 255 at 0000:0000."
07-26-94 - version 0.995ß
NOTE : It has been months since our last update because of the DPMI bug
found in this release. Also, we were working on several other
programs at the time. Two of them are JFL, a file lister for
Renegade, and Future Wars, an online game. With the two afore-
mentioned being developed, BBS2Dir got set on the back burner.
■ BBS2Dir will now send email to the SysOp if an error occurs while it
runs. As a SysOp, this feature really helps, because I don't like to
sit in front of the computer, waiting for 3:00am events to see if
everything worked.
* NOTE : SysOp's mail sent by BBS2Dir will not show up if the problem is
that RENEGADE.DAT doesn't exist or USERS.DAT doesn't exist.
Needless to say, you won't need BBS2Dir to tell you either one
of these is missing!
■ Installed an error handler to give more information if an error occurs.
Also, this makes sure all files get closed, should there be a run-time
error.
■ Added support for extended descriptions on different lines of
FILES.BBS, as in Monster Media's FILES.BBS. The character to start
other lines of descriptions is configurable in B2DCFG. It is set by
default to be "|" (pipe).
! Found a bug dealing with DPMI applications under OS/2.
NOTE : When BBS2Dir is run set to look for FILE_ID.DIZ's and is shelled
out from a DPMI application (such as Borland Pascal 7.0), it will
cause an INTERNAL PROCESSING ERROR if more than about 40 files
are processed.
BBS2Dir works fine under DOS. It also works fine under OS/2 as
long as there are no DPMI applications in memory in the current
DOS box.
! Fixed bug dealing with high volume imports (1000 or more, usually from
CD). After aforementioned amount of files are processed, BBS2Dir would
try to access memory that either wasn't there or wasn't free. We
changed the way the program swaps, and it seems to work fine.
■ This is a small feature, which only helps holders of Monster Media '94
Vol. 1. In some of the FILE_ID.DIZ's of files, especially those in the
Health/Fitness/Recipes dir, the text ended with a control code which
cleared the screen. Now, BBS2Dir will convert said characters into
nulls, thus solving the problem.
05-14-94 - version 0.96ß
· Took out Scan Drives option in B2DCFG.
04-17-94 - version 0.94ß
! Fixed bug with CD-ROM drives in B2DCFG.
04-15-94 - version 0.93ß
■ Added a parameter for an alternate FILES.BBS name. (For use with CD-ROMs)
! Fixed bug of too many files open.
04-07-94 - version 0.92ß
! Fixed bug of archives not yet supported.
! Fixed bug of no description following filename in FILES.BBS.
04-05-94 - version 0.91ß
! Fixed bug dealing with swapping. When more than one type of archive were
being used, the second and third type would not function correctly.
! Fixed (another) bug dealing with swapping. Now does not change color
scheme in memory.
04-03-94 - version 0.90ß
! Fixed bug with archivers. When a lot of conventional memory is
unavailable, BBS2Dir must be swapped to either EMS or disk. Swapping
routines, using EXECSWAP.PAS, have been implemented.
04-02-94 - version 0.85ß
■ B2DCFG searches hard drive for ARJ.EXE, PKUNZIP.EXE, and LHA.EXE.
Note : More archive formats are planned for future releases of BBS2Dir.
03-26-94 - version 0.80ß
■ Now searches for FILE_ID.DIZ in ARJ, ZIP, and LZH files. (Long overdue)
■ Added a configuration program, B2DCFG.EXE.
Note : A configuration program was needed for the sysop to enter the
locations of ARJ.EXE, PKUNZIP.EXE, and LHA.EXE. We could have
made BBS2DIR.EXE search for them, but that would lengthen execution
time. Also, we could have put ARJ, ZIP, and LHA code in the program
itself, but that would cause problems if and when new versions of
the archivers came out.
03-15-94 - version 0.71ß
■ Changed CD-ROM support. Now does not scan CD-ROM base if files already
exist. Since it didn't have to search through all the CD-ROM dirs a
second time, run time was greatly reduced.
03-14-94 - version 0.70ß
■ Added support for CD-ROMs.
! Fixed bug with too many files open. (Bug caused by sharing routines)
03-03-94 - version 0.50ß
! Major bug fix. Put file sharing routines for multi-taskers,
networks, etc. that caused BBS2Dir to crash.
! Fixed bug of filenames with extensions less than 3 characters.
! Fixed bug of filenames with less than 8 characters.
■ Added support for Renegade | color codes in output.
■ Capitalized filename in log file.
11-07-93 - version 0.31α
! Now doesn't go to next line if no space between commas.
! Fixed bug of date 11/07/93 being 11/7/93. Caused Renegade to think
the date of such a file would be 11/79/31. Thus causing the file to
be new forever.
10-25-93 - version 0.30α
■ Added a log file, BBS2DIR.LOG. The log file looks very similar to
Front Door style log files.
■ Major asthetic improvements. Now looks like ReneMail.
■ Added duplicate checking.
10-24-93 - version 0.15α
■ Truncates lines in exteneded description - words are now not split
between lines.
10-23-93 - version 0.10α
■ Added support for extended descriptions.
■ Minor asthetic improvements.
■ BBS2Dir now does not process files that do not exist but are written
in the FILES.BBS.
10-22-93 - version 0.01α
■ First alpha release of BBS2Dir
